Construction of a 130,984 SF research facility with a $60 Million budget
BDR provided program management services for the successful delivery of the $60M Center for Engineering & Research at Georgia Southern University. The 130,984 GSF facility now consolidates all the College of Engineering and Information Technology’s disciplines under one roof with a conference center, 21 instructional labs, and 25 academic learning spaces.
The new center fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and interaction among students, researchers, and faculty by the intimate proximity of classrooms, seminar rooms, computer labs, administrative offices, and research areas. It features specialized labs for additive manufacturing, 3D printing, robotics, nanomaterials, and automation, the flexible interdisciplinary building provides high bay spaces, a cleanroom, instrumentation suites, technology-rich classrooms, teaching labs, meeting spaces, and faculty and administrative offices.
During the project’s construction, BDR successfully led the team through various cost-saving efforts. Through effective communication methods that kept the team on schedule, BDR was able to work with the team to gain an additional 6% program area without impacting quality, budget, or program.
